Preliminary Proposal

The problem I chose is overspending in the higher ups of the education system, in Livingston, my hometown. I'll probably use interviews mainly, but I may research the topic further at my local library. I will interview teachers and some staff around the schools, because of their close relationship to the problem. The photographs I use will show the places in the school system where the money should have been spent, and the places where it should NOT have been spent.

I think yoiur topic will be very successful. It will be easy to get photographs. It sounds like you feel strongly towards this problem which will benefit you when researching this project. You have a great start. You could even interview other students and see if they have a strong opinion on the subject. I am interested to see how your project turns out.

A fairly ambitious decision if I do say so myself. I hope you are able to get comments from the higher ups as they might not be so keen on admiting they have "mis-spent" the budget. Not alot of comments to make and if you can pull this off, I'd love to read it.

What part of school system is it is it a university, high school, middle school, elementary, or a combination of several? Interviews seems to be a good idea for this topic. In fact through your interviews you may learn about many more problems than you orginally thought were there. This project should be "do-able" as long as there are enought problems with the school exspenditures.

I think your proposal will bring about a strong argument and you will be able to argue it if you are able to see the reasons the board put the money to use in these ways. I think you have chosen an easy topic that will be able to prove and take pictures on. Are all school systems using their funds in this manner or is there a particular reason they are being used in this way. If it was for technology purposes in the classroom I think that is valid spending but if the equiptment is not used then it is not. I think you have come up with a great topic and maybe even a great argument.

I think this is a great topic and a worthy problem to address. Education and it's funding is definitely a problem. This will be easy to relate the problem to you because you attended school there or have family members who it affects. The interviews seem to be the backbone of the paper; I hope you are able to find people willing to do it. Good Luck!

It's not just one school, but every school in the entire county. Also, the misuse of money is not from a technological standpoint from the classrooms. Last year, they used 1 million dollars to build a new school board building. It's very high tech and has things which has needless things added to it (a tv that slides out of the ceiling). This wouldn't be so bad if their old building wasn't servicable. Or perhaps they had fixed the problems in the other schools. My highschool for example, still has asbestos in the ceiling of our theatre, and the original carpet from the 60's in most classrooms.

Then there's the fact that every year the food they buy for school lunches gets cheaper and cheaper (you can tell by the quality), but the prices seem to always rise. I remember my junior year they couldn't afford to buy more variety near the end of the year and we were forced to eat the same thing for about two weeks. I have a lot of passion about this because I feel that my school system has screwed me out of a better education (evident in the fact that I am in remedial algebra and my counselor apologized when she heard where I graduated from). My mom's also a teacher and I know pretty much everyone that works in the county, teachers and higher ups.

This seems like an interesting issue, but it also seem like it will be difficult to obtain good information. Who does this problem effect the most? Which are most devastating to those effected? I hope you have some good inside resources on this.
